The World's History

---------------------------------------------------------------

Terháya was once one unified land, a multicultural bounty of bliss.

Those living on the surviving side of Terháya do not have to fear their wild and primal counterparts, not for now anyway. For separating the two halves of Terháya was the mysterious Dusk. This “Dusk” is an unknown anomaly, those who challenge it, fade from existence. Those who dare to face the unknown are swallowed, and erased from the books of existence. Whilst little is known about the dusk, one thing is certain... It is inextricably linked to this Catastrophe.

“Dusk has taken over our magical methods, I have to sit and watch as our ancient arts are lost, the dusk moves nowhere, however its influence spreads. Our youngest magicians, our future. They turn to the ease of tapping into the Dusk for their magic, showing off their new found power without any consideration of what it is doing to them, doing to us. Our most secret and ancient arts being reduced to but a handful of practitioners... and whatever the Lortans scribble down into those scrolls of theirs.” - Excerpt from Annals of Estyár.

Totems of Creation continue to bring forth new life into this messed up and torn world. A thing of beauty when facing almost certain extinction. Society for the Fellánc is split, the Murtans seek only the finest goods, only the Lortans and their closest allies look further, at what may happen to them, but does it end with the Dusk? Or is that simply the beginning to the list of problems the Fellánc people must now face?

However it was not meant to be this way forever. 'The Catastrophe' as the natives would come to term it, was a catastrophic disaster that split the world into two parts. The two sides could not have been more different as a single race, cut in twain by cruel fates. One side, still maintains that haven of varying types of beings, terrain from never-ending sand, vast bodies of water, to icy tundras.

The other side, forced to survive on barren and bare wasteland, losing everything that made them Fellánc and twisted into a race all their own, only the most primal of instincts, those to survive remain.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Race

---------------------------------------------------------------

Prior to the Catastrophe, the main race across Terháya were known as the Fellánc, after the split, only the Eastern Continent has kept that name for its people.
Those on the West have long forgotten how to speak, how to communicate, who they once were and have abandoned all hope of becoming anything more. They are simply the 'Shadow Dwellers', a name not of their choosing, but the only one deemed appropriate.
There are unique traits for each Fellánc, depending on the region that they hail from, however:

---------------------------------------------------------------

General Traits

---------------------------------------------------------------

Each Fellánc has two pairs of ears, that can have a number of patterns and shapes, they are not limited to having one tail either.

From the waistline up, Fellánc have humanoid bodies, everything from the waist down takes a more feral form.

As can be expected, the multiple ears play a key role in their surviving skills, the Fellánc having a keen sense of hearing, with each set of ears handling different frequencies.

The feral limbs of the Fellánc give them a natural agility that helps them overcome the challenges of bountiful terrain.
Curiosity is one of their most notable traits (and one of their biggest weaknesses).

---------------------------------------------------------------

Gender specific differences

---------------------------------------------------------------

Gender does not play the most stereotypical of differences in Fellánc society, there are no designated roles assigned to either gender, nor is it a part of their thought to judge others based on this, Fellánc are more likely to hate each other over rarity, than gender.

That said, there are some key, visual differences between the two genders of Fellánc.

Female

:bulletpink:  1. Female ears are slimmer than those of their male counterparts
:bulletpink:
2. Female upper ears will always have a frayed segment
:bulletpink:
3. Female hands are more petite, slender.
:bulletpink:
4. Female feet/legs are equally slim but are very capable of generating power to rival a male
:bulletpink:
5. The female tail will more often than not curve upwards.

:bulletpink:  6. The eyebrows of females are more fine and defined.

Male

:bulletblue:  1. Male Fellánc ears are bigger than those of the females.
:bulletblue:  2. Male hands are larger
:bulletblue:  3. The male tail naturally curves downwards, or has a more natural 'resting' place.
:bulletblue:  4. Male feet/legs are by natural build larger, however this doesn't necessarily help them outperform females

---------------------------------------------------------------

Zone-specific Features

---------------------------------------------------------------

Suffice it to say, that a land divided into so many zones gives birth to so many different features dependant on the location the Fellánc grows up in. Particular differences are:

  • Shading around the eye area

  • 'Pattern' around the eyes

  • Personality

  • Attitude to other Fellánc

  • Style of dress

  • Occupations

  • Ear Forms

  • Ear Fluff Quantity

  • And much more!

---------------------------------------------------------------

Lower Ears

---------------------------------------------------------------

The lower ears of the Fellánc process the background noise and search for danger (note their almost radar like shape). They come in many different forms and are one of the key ways of defining the rarity of a Fellánc.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Upper Ears

---------------------------------------------------------------

The upper ears will focus on the immediate conversation at hand, they will also display the most emotion during interaction between Fellánc. Whilst they don't come in as many forms, their rarity is defined by the pattern that covers their fur as well as the color!

---------------------------------------------------------------

Tail forms

---------------------------------------------------------------

Fellánc are very proud of their tails, and will always be quick to show them off to one another should interest be shown. Rarity of tails is defined by the form, pattern and color!

---------------------------------------------------------------

Birth and partnership

---------------------------------------------------------------

While many of our most traditional practices are beginning to be forgotten, perhaps our most beautiful element lives on. When two Fellánc find love, regardless of their gender, the arcane mistress herself will reach out to them. Their bond will be silently weighed by the power of the Arcane, and should it be proven true, that energy shall turn into a Totem.
What is a Totem? A Totem is the truest proof of love that a couple can have, for deep within the Totem breathes new life, new life created from the energy of a couple. In other words, reproduction is a gift of energy.
This gift comes with one final test, however, for the Totem is seldom placed in the proximity of the parents. It becomes a quest for the parents to find their totem and raise it, for if it is not found by the time it is ready to hatch, well, then the child is cast away. To where? We do not know.
The Arcane is a caring mistress, but she does not like her greatest gift to be mocked.”
- Excerpt from the Annals of Estyár

Quick question?
Are there any non-binary/androgynous Fellanc?
